in high school learning to play drums, Helmet was my biggest source of inspiration...the two songs i'd randomly drum/practice the most (whether on actual drums or on my desk at school) were "I Know" and "Unsung"...(that intro to "I Know" is fucking stapled to my brain more than ten years later, though i had to look up the name of the song 'cuz i couldn't remember it...just the drum intro...)

Bedhead "Psychosomatica"
about any Sonic Youth song with Steve Shelley...or Neu!...or Buzzcocks...(see they all rely heavily on that similar beat, see...) but if i have to choose one song "Shizophrenia"...
Joy Division "Disorder"
The Cure "Play for Today" (and even though it's actually played by the keyboard dude, it's most fun to play the syn-drum part like on a cymbal or something too...)
The Birthday Party "Happy Birthday"
Public Image Ltd. "Four Enclosed Walls"
Cabaret Voltaire "On Every Other Street"
Devo "Mongoloid"
i'll second Terrainasaur's mention of "Dirt"...
for some real practice try drumming along with Suicide's first album...

and by the way this is a brilliant idea...i should do this myself...i almost never practice drums anymore...i just play and am probably not much better than i was 10 years ago...maybe i could use this to fulfil my dream of being able to play like Elvin Jones...

oh and sorry if some of these songs are above beginner level (though not all)...(i guess i mostly went with well, interesting drum parts...) but for me when i was learning to play the best practice i got was when i'd get a drum part stuck in my head (often Helmet...i was really into Helmet at that time...i still think they had really interesting drum rhythms...) and i'd try to play it but couldn't...so i'd practice over and over...and while it helped me get better, it didn't feel like practice, 'cuz it was just more of "i really want to play this cool fuckin' part"...oh that and actually playing with a group...when i first joined the "jazz band" my instructor nicknamed me "rollercoaster" (constantly speeding up and slowing down) but by the end of the semester i could keep a steady rhythm! wow! so i guess playing along with a tape would be ood for this as well...
