I use one and it's fine. I'd like a better one, but they're much more expensive.

I've used cable ties (the cop handcuffs you talk about above). I also drilled through the board that I'll be using (one hole on either side of the pedal) and looped the cable tie through the holes. My board also has some non-skid feet on it, so the bottom side of the cable tie doesn't interfere on the floor.

For the power-up, I've got one of these:



Works well. I like the fact that it allows me to go on/off of a loop of pedals with one stomp (in my case, 3 distortion pedals) but will power up pedals inside and outside its signal chain loop.

the boss tu-2 tuner pedal also has the ability to power up to 7 other pedals. I've used it for almost 3 years now, and its been great for me!

...can also be used as a power supply with the right "daisy-chain" cord.
