My favorite band of 10 years ago is my favorite band now, but that's only because it is the Sun City Girls.
I really loved and actively listened to Mission of Burma, Minutemen, Fall, etc. 10 years ago. These bands are still great, but I never listen to them. It has literally been years since I listened to a Minutmen record.
I can understand why people who are devoted to a certain kind of noisy punk/postpunk/indie rock music would still be listening to the bands they loved 10 years ago. Those bands did that music better than the bands who do it today.

121996, when I was 15. Probably Nirvana, Led Zeppelin or the Beatles.
I think I'll stick with Led Zeppelin.
In ten years time, my love of Nirvana has slightly diminished as has my admiration for the Beatles. Strangely enough, I think I like Led Zeppelin even more now.

1310 years ago...
This was the tail end of a period of several years where the answer would have been an immediate and definitive "Voivod", going back to maybe 1990 or 91, and for a couple years before that (89, 90), Metallica.
But exactly 10 years ago? I would say that though Voivod was still way up near the top, the "favorite" spot would probably have been usurped by these four:
Fugazi
The Pixies Doolittle
(Chicago band) Pistol Whipped's Quality Songs For Quality People
(Boston band) Chevy Heston's Destroy.
Within a couple years after that, I would be introduced to something I had never heard of, "indie rock"... Finally, somebody told me about music that embodied the sonic and textural aesthetic I had been leaning toward since back in the days of Metallica (darker-sounding but not necessarily atonal chords, arpeggiated cleanly in odd meters) and Voivod (edgy, crazy distorted chords played in odd meters and weird polyrythmns)!! I had been heading down that road for a while, totally unaware that there were bands that had been, for years, doing amazing things with this aesthetic, and I was missing out on it. By the time I heard of Slint and Polvo, they were already toast.
But back in 96, I was listening like mad to these four bands, which had a common tie (with the exception of Fugazi) of playing songs that were kinda pop-like, that had a lot of energy, but definitely had some quirkiness that made them distinctly non-pop. 96 was a great year for listening to quirky non-pop pop music.

14WTF. Old habits die hard, I guess. And for whatever reason, I can't delete that post and post it from this account instead. Oops!

15Pretty much the Beatles since I was in 3rd grade.... different records and songs hit me harder at different times but over all they still make me happy and inspired...
Neil Young is close to the top (with all his bands....maybe not Shocking Pinks...)
DEVO is close to the top as well for four of their records especially.
I guess I am a pretty loyal music listener... I have only really 'left' one band I can think of that I liked by outgrowing them (Kiss was may favorite until I heard the Beatles... kindergarten through 2nd grade...very telling...)

Wes 9......KLYV 105? Sweet!
There are some bands who, for whatever reason have not aged with me (god bullies, chokebore, polvo, & june of 44)
And then some that have
(palace, seam, disco inferno, & Bedhead)
that's life I guess. try to listen to as much new stuff as possible, but the stuff I listened to between 18-23 has really stuck to my ribs so far.
