I know I'm committing blasphemy when I say I can't stand that woman or her poetry/lyrics. Perhaps it's my competitively female ego talking. But even when I was a shy little kid and didn't show a hint of the bitchy ego I would acquire years later, I didn't like her, or really any female rock musician for that matter. None of them ever struck a chord with me. That's probably due to my being a freak of nature, but that's another matter.

While my own music could only be considered rock in very liberal terms, I'm fairly proud of my lyrics, although naturally I don't expect anyone here to be familiar with them or even interested. I'm so far outside I don't even qualify as "outsider music," and for the time being, I'm content with that. It affords me a number of liberties.

i have to agree that patti smith is not in the running (although ruling out all female musicians seems unecessary) for best lyrics. she is a great character, makes for some real good photos, and besides sounding a hell of alot like tom verlain, i'd say that's all she's good for.

I don't know if this is your thing, but I keep thinking of Spires that in the Sunset Rise from Chicago. this band blows me away live. They swtich off between guitar, cello, percussion, dulcimers, bowed banjo, etc. etc. run through amps and over these hypnotic tribal beats. they sing like ghosts.

there are some nice sound clips on the site, (kathy's voice in "a little or a lot" is beautiful), but I think their strength is how they come across live. this band is so good! repulsive and lovely at the same time. very compelling.

enjoy!
