mono is not crap.

we got a You Are There promo at work and I like it a lot. The second track on One More Step is good, too. Haven't listened to Walking Cloud but once. Will give it some more listens.

Looking forward to their tour w/ Pelican.

Crap for the English and Dutch Mono's and not crap
for the Japanese and Swiss (Monno) ones.

Worlds End Girlfriend supported them (Jap Mono) in the UK just before
christmas. Both bands were excellent. The latest W.E.G Cd is well worth
a listen.

Is the Mono/WEG split a conventional split record or a collaboration?
Sounds like something I want to own.

it's a collaboration. it's really good. five tracks, i think. very very orchestral, around track 3 it starts to hit a crescendo. i think you can only buy a japanese import at the moment, but temporary residence is going to release it state-side in september.

I saw Mono two years ago at the Montreux Jazz Festival without any expectations.....
I have to admit that I had a great evening, they blew me. They're great live.

I'll have to get that import I think.
A stateside september release means around 2010 limeyside.

That song is called "Com?", and while it isn't your typical MONO song (they bring the RAWK a bit more on this one than they do their other songs) it is nonetheless a fabulous track.

They're definitely mellowing and evolving with age, but they are still one of my favorite bands at the moment. I can't wait to see them with Pelican in June, I'm sure they'll (collectively) bring it like it's never been brought before.

I saw them live last year, and though I normally am deeply effected by good live music, this show far surpassed any other show I've seen. And I've been to many in my 33 years. I was not wasted/drunk/brainwashed, and their music and performance had me, by turns, ecstatic, overwhelmed with compassion, broken, and thrilled like I've never been, other than when in serious meditation, or, you know... Maybe I was in a more receptive frame of mind than some (I think some people at this show were bored, incredibly. They were talking during the quiet parts, etc.) - I read into the background of the album and its name, and it was meaningful to me beforehand. Beautiful, scary, transcendental musics, to me. Like Ghost a bit maybe, but better.

For me, the recordings are good, but they don't come close to what they do live.

Also, they are so nice, these people. Very quiet, but truly nice. We talked with them before and after the show, and were glad to meet these good folks. Oh, and as far as I can recall, their English skills were damn good.
We got video of the set - asked the drummer if it was alright, and if he wanted a copy, both positively received. If anyone wants a copy, pm me.
