I consider Untitled to be a title, and a Crap title at that. If you don't have a title for a track, do like the eleventh track on Green. That's an untitled track, not a track titled Untitled.
The rank:
1. Use of a long and meaningless phrase as a song title: My favorite thing about Don Caballero. Not Crap.
2. The use of a number as an album title where such number corresponds to the numer of total releases for the artist/band: Crap, but naming albums can be hard. If you don't name your third album, everybody's going to call it "Owl Botherer 3" anyway, so you may as well name it that... Crap, but maybe understandable.
3. The use of "Untitled" as a song title: Crap, no need for it. I'm with OP on this one. It's not usually that hard to name a song, and even when it is hard, it's worth it.

12This doesn't bother me so much. Especially if the song has no words. Sometimes to me the titled instrumental is more annoying than the untitled instrumental. An old band I was in called an instrumental "D" because it was in d. Get it? D?
I will Rank now.
1. Number Songs. Karma to Burn=Not Crap.
2. Untitled. No big deal.
3. Long Titles. So effin pretentious. This says the deep meaning of the song cannot possibly be conveyed in fewer than ten words.

13Crap.
But there is something a bit wanky about titling any piece of creative output, maybe because it means you have to stand by it as a quality product you have great pride in. And pride is a wanky thing if worn publicly. Think how it would sound if you cooked a great lasagne for your b/g f and solomnly announced "I present: 'Cheese Narcissus'!" I suspect most "Untitleds" are misfiring attempts to be "a bit different", but there's a difference between a cliché and an archetype. So many musicians have attempted to avoid the "cliché" of titling a song, they've created their own special kind of cliché..."The Historically Troubled 3rd Album", Title TK, or worst of all: The Name of the Band itself when it's not their first release.

14my old band had a song we called "blank."
the lyrics were, "let me sleep just in case i can't remember your name."
made sense. not quite "untitled." but close enough.

15I think it is stupid now, but maybe the first few people to do it were creative.
There are only two songs with no name that I like, and that is Vast and Smashing Pumpkins

171. - Use of a long and meaningless phrase as a song title.
I enjoy this practice as I don't bother to learn song titles anymore. Since I generally don't know people (outside of this board) who like what I like, I have no reason to discuss songs. With instrumental songs I never learn the song titles. So since they're irrelevant, they may as well be silly/fun.
2. - The use of a number as an album title where such number corresponds to the number of total releases for the artist/band
Doesn't bother me but how hard is it to string a few words together? I think a band would have to be really lazy or really narcissistic to do this.
3. - The use of "Untitled" as a song title.
See numbers 1 and 2.

the director's cut of the film 'almost famous' is called 'untitled'.
it is far superior to the theatrical release, which i didn't really enjoy.
