Rent the DVDs, kerble. It's a fantastic show and the idiots at Fox doomed it by airing the episodes out of order. It was a typical Joss Whedon creation in that it was heavily character-driven and your connection with the characters grew as they did themselves. So some executive at Fox made the brilliant decision to air an episode other than the 2-hour pilot first and then subsequent episodes in almost random order. Ridiculous.

It deserved better. I think you'll like it.

Oddly enough, I haven't caught on to the new BG yet, but I've been hearing all the raves from fellow nerds for a year now. I'll have to catch up and get onboard.

I made the very terrible mistake of seeing one of those clip-shows that brings people up to speed if they haven't seen the first two seasons. I say that it was a terrible mistake because now I have yet another television show that I have fallen for. Nearly every single day of the week involves an hour-long TV series of some sort! Damnit! Battlestar Galactica is NOT CRAP.

It's the exception because it just happens to be set in space and they happen to be fighting cylons. I love that a large portion of the stories focus on things like politics and philosophy and religion and everything else.

Actually the religion aspect fascinates me the most. The cylons believe in a single god. The people believe in many gods. The writers realized that most of their viewers come from monotheist societies and use this angle to subconsciously encourage people to identify with the cylons.

Unfortunately I found out (much too late) that I don't have the Sci Fi channnel. I was pretty bummed out Friday night. Does anyone know of any particularly geeky bars that will set the TV to Battlestar Galactica if I ask?

Oof. That is a rough one. I recommend a plunging neckline.

I had a Dork-Off at my practicum. Suckas tried to step, but I won by proclaiming my undying love for BSG and my excitement for the season premiere. My pals' looks of horror are still burned into my retinas, but whatever, they still ate lunch with me. Ha ha to them!

BSG is so good. So good.

So, i have a problem.

I've become perhaps unhealthily obsessed with this TV show.

Like, ok, i make a point to never miss Lost or Veronica Mars on a weekly basis, but i can shut off thinking about those shows after i watch them (especially Lost, which is really getting boring). But with BSG i find myself going over details of the show in my head way too often during the day. I find myself reading Wiki articles on cylons when i'm bored at work. I am currently burning season 1 and the miniseries onto DVD-R so i can host a series of "bring you people up to speed" parties for my friends that aren't converted yet.

And the worst part is that i won't stop talking about it in social situations. I think i've been like this for at least a month and it has to be getting worse. This show has made me regress into the social misfit from my youth who couldn't talk about anything other than the fantasy world i was obsessed with. I have to be alienating people at a record clip. I must be.

I need help. I'm not sure i want help, but i need it.

It's okay. I've come to find that people understand. Just apologize for being a BSG geek immediately upon discovering their glazed eyes while discussing it. Then quickly change the subject & ask about how their day was or whatever.

Don't send people links to this weblog, either.

Recently, in a conversation with a teenager in the family, the topic of BSG came up. It was clear that she didn't really have any idea what it was. Then she said something like: "Honestly, I thought Battlestar Galactica was just another way of saying 'nerd'... I didn't know it was an actual show or anything."
