Chavez, hands down.

Even if their music was bad (which it wasn't). They had some really great videos.

I can't remember the name of the song. I think it's the first one off Gone Glimmering.

The video is a bunch of greased up guys (the band?) wearing animal masks struting on a runway. Amazing.

AND James Low on the What's up Matador video was pretty great too.

I like both of these bands a lot and if I could only listen to one of them I'd probably take Hum. However, I don't see these bands as being synonymous. They are both big loud guitar bands, but the guitar playing is so different that I just don't equate the two.

I've probably seen Hum play more shows than any other band, but I never got a chance to see Chavez. I think I know the answer, but were they good live?

Chavez.

By a country mile.

And I have really enjoyed HUM live and on record for many many moons.

Still,

Chavez.

Everyone should still buy their records.

This fact says far more about you than it does about Hum.

Both are great bands, Hum just inches ahead, if only because I've gotten to see them live quite a few times, and they were always really nice and completely fucking awesome.

"Gone Glimmering" was/and still is a really inspirational album for me, in terms of playing guitar. Chavez also has a song called "You Faded" which ranks as one of the all time best songs in the history of best songs, right up there with Hum's "I'd Like Your Hair Long"

This story was relayed to me by the brother of one of the guys in Hum.

Backstage after a show a fan asked if he could get Hum to sign a CD. They said sure and he ran off to get it. They were hanging out, drinking etc, and everyone ended up back in their dressing room. Unintentionally the door to the dressing room got closed and locked. The super fan returned later to find the dressing room door locked and went nuts. He punched a whole through the drywall *INTO* the dressing room and yelled at them for trying to avoid him (think "The Shining").

Was this the jerky incident in question?
