would love to get a prius, but they need to drop a bit in price -- at least one tier above what i can afford...vw beetle is still efficient as hell and keeps me from feeling too guilty when i drive to the liquor/grocery/hardware store.

My parents got one. The gas tank is like 10 gallons, and they have to refill it what, once a month?
Comfortable, too. Not crap, slight WF because the sound system sucks ass.

Don't blow your load on a Prius. I've driven one and have rode in them and they're not worth it. Go look at a Scion instead.

What about the Prius is not worth it? Why go for the Scion instead? You still get about 5 horse power, but you get about 1/2 the gas mileage. Where's the logic behind that?
Oh, and Not Crap, but the old look was WAY better than this half assed hatchback thing

Nice. I always think "Prion," which is what they should probably call the Scion hybrid, if they ever come out with one.

Total crap. Hybrids are not that fuel efficient. A friend of mine just bought one and he actually gets 32 mpg... That's what my standard compact car gets.
This is like the iPod battery... They say it lasts 12 hours, but this is only if you have the volume at 10% and never touch any of the controls.
You get 40mph if you only drive down hills.
This is just a bunch of short term crap because everyone is too scared to stand up to the oil companies.
Putting 2 engines in a car, regenerative breaking, and all this stuff is just more crap to go wrong. Now you're funding the Saudi's and you local Toyota dealership.
Nonetheless, I know all too many people who have boners about these cars, and think they are saving the world...
I wonder how much more waste it took to make a car with 2 engines and gizmos to do this and that. I'm not just talking the manufacturing, but the R&D, and everything...
Ed Baigley Jr. for president! ZZ top for vice president, chief of staff and secratary of defense.

Personally, I'm more excited by the Accord hybrid (serious power with reasonable mileage) and the Camry hybrid. I have never really liked Camrys, but the new ones look much better, and the fit/finish on the hybrid (top trim level) is superb.
But the Prius is a nice little car. Just not exciting to me.
I do think the Scion xA is 'cute' and a decent (and dead cheap) alternative.
burun: I also ALWAYS think 'priapism' when I see the word Prius. Perhaps that is the idea, to counteract the wimpiness of the car itself.

I know it is not fair.
But this is what I think when I see this name.
A selling point!

I'd wait until Toyota gets off their recall bender that they've been having for the last four years or so.
The gas mileage is great, but if I'm forced to make a choice, I prefer a car that can steer.
