I sense a backlash of huge proportions, but:
The Ramones. Just don't do it for me.

i know many folks who don't dig the ramones, ac/dc or motorhead. most of them like one of the three but not all three.
i actually like a lot of the bands people have listed and was never disappointed at all.
black flag, the minutemen, sonic youth, dinosaur jr., the cure, the replacements, guided by voices, john coltrane, the beatles, deerhoof, mclusky, the liars, gang of four, radio 4, the wipers, and scratch acid have all disappointed me.
i'm sure there are others.

for the ramones? or the cure?
i love the ramones.
i like two cure songs: "1015 on a saturday night" and "primary." and for what's hurtling towards a 30yr career, that's just a very bad success rate.

18-Nearly every time a band has been described to me, I end up disappointed. A lot of bands' imagery, and what they are 'going for', end up being at least somewhat compromised by several nebulous factors, right?
Example: When Sonic Youth was described to me, I was expecting something more along the lines of the first Dust Devils album. When I dropped my expectations, the material worked better...
-I think a lot of bands start with a great focus, with the live, but by the time they end up recording, the 'novelty' has worn off, or they become focused more on nuts and bolts, etc. You know, the 'their first album was great, but boy, did they lose it' phenomenon. I know most bands I start rarely get past the first setlist...and that is usually for the best.

Minutemen- I'm sure I'm going to be ripped apart for this one, but I just don't get what is so great about these guys. I was expecting one of the greatest bands of all time and what I heard was a weak garage funk band with bad lyrics and 45 second songs.
I disagree, but like you said, you'll get ripped apart for this one, so I'll spare you.
Here's my list:
Mono: I guess this band made me realize the post-rock "I like Slint" Mogwai era of bands had reached a boring, snoozefest of drool on my collar. Sure, they are OK, but fucking enough already.
Jawbox: What is it with them? I am not sure. I saw them live like eight times. They were so boring, I was transfixed with how many songs they would play before Kim's ponytails would de-rubber-band into a mess of L7 hairfarmery. Usually it was eight. Was it because they played with Circus Lupus, Tar, early Helmet and Nation of Ulysses? Probably. They were like Washington D.C.'s Def Leppard. Production values on later albums is so radio ggarthy.
Godspeed You Black Emperor: I feel like I am listening to the musical accompaniment to those Zendik "Stop Bitching Start a Revolution" trustafarians that hand out stickers in front of Urban Outfitters. Fuck me in the eye socket. Boring. Predictable. Don't get me wrong though, I did like Labradford and the Rachels..
Tomahawk: Is this really the best Duane can do after TJL? This is horrible "I'm fucking weird and obnoxious like a punk Frank Zappa" pile of bullshit. I hate it. Fuck me. And Mike Patton, you'd be great in an instrumental band with a straightjacket on and a muzzle and a microphone with the voice coil ripped out.
Killers: A really respected friend of mine recommended them. What the FUCK????!!???

I've thought for a while that a cool music project would be making music that sounds like you imagined a band you were hyped up for, sounded like (as awkwardly phrased as that is). I'm sure everyone has parallel universe bands in their head for before they heard an artist the first time.
