Accusation: Sell Out

14
I think there is a clear and useful definition of selling out. In my interpretation it has to do with the ignorance of someone signing to a major label under the assumption they will make money. It is basically an admission of a lack of work ethic. If you goal is to play music for a living and you feel the most logical and promising path is to sign yourself up with a large company that gives less than two shits about your general wellfare, then you are a sellout. If you, after years of busting your ass, decide to say, "fuck it, let's see what happens" then I don't really see much of a problem with that. I think it is still dumb, just not as dumb. Mind you though, I am a big asshole when it comes to bands leaving small, local labels just when they start to get more popular. Over my six years of working at a small label, I saw at least four bands leave to go to big labels with more notoriety. It makes me sad more than anything. Maybe if I were in a position where people were constantly telling me how great my band was and how many records we could sell i would feel differently. Probably not. Thankfully not many people have ever really liked the bands I was in.

Sick bastards!

Although at least these you speak of have some sense in trying to hide their corporate whore shame some just don't give a fuck - Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Madonna etc etc etc etc How much fucking money can these filthy fucking squibs possibly want?

20 fucking million a movie and you go and whore yourself (and your then relationship) to a company selling jewellery!

They obviously have zero regard for the art form they have been successful in.

They make me want to fucking puke all over them.

Which actors would these be?
Bill Murray's character in Lost in Translation doesn't count. Although I'm sure he wouldn't have claimed to be above it.

I saw Brad Pitt in ads for multiple products, including coffee. I saw somebody - maybe it was Colin Farrell? Maybe someone like him? - on billboard ads for an English language school.

But I saw a fucking amazing commercial for Chu Hai, which I guess is some sort of wine cooler or something, starring Ben Stiller. The voice was overdubbed and sounded absolutely nothing like him. It was extremely high energy, loud and manic. He drank the Chu Hai, and then I think he got frozen in a big block of ice, and then he exploded out of the ice block and flew off into the air. Girls in bikinis were present throughout. Amazing.
Why do you make it so scary to post here.
