I can't hear any kind of attempt to emulate either of these bands. Nothing at all.
The above statement is false.
"the Charmer" reminds me of both bands, fwiw.
the above statement is false, the statement above that is somewhat true.

Taylor Brand Abrasive Sound Structure is the best Shellac rip-off ever. Why even try after that?

The young widows recording was done
here.
btw, Evan patterson, the singer and guitar player of young widows is also in Black Cross (who are still a band)...their full length was recorded by J Robbins, I did a later ep.

They used to call themselves Black Cross, I think. I'm sure they released at least one record with that name. I like everything I have heard. It is hard for me to keep up with all of the name changes.

No, they used to be called Breather Resist. I made this same mistake. Louisville's scene is so incestuous it can be confusing somtimes.
Black Cross is Ryan Patterson, Young Widows is Evan Patterson. I think. Eh, who cares?

They were Black Widows before that... Both must have been in that band.

Both Patterson brothers are in black cross currently...other than that black cross has nothing to do with young widows.

Oh yeah, this is also misinformation...bodies are some hoosiers from Jeffersonville IN, in no way related (musicaly or otherwise) to young widows.

But to dub them a Shellac copyist band is taking a very broad brush stroke imo. Much more so than if we were talking about a band like Mclusky. Widows are a far better band than that, from what I can tell.
I hear far more Fugazi in there than either Shellac or TJL.
I like!
Plenty!
I don't hear Shellac (although I'm not super-familiar with a huge amount of Shellac) or TJL particularly either.
