The 457 is recommended by Tascam so you can use their autoload function. I've used only 456 thus far with no problems.

side question for those experienced with the 388:

any tricks to getting the power supply pcb out? are there clips?

i've pulled my 388 out of storage after 6 years of inactivity only to notice:
1. capstan belt is shat (and now replaced).
2. filter caps on the power supply pcb have spilled their guts and probably need to be replaced.
3. i'm down to 4 working vu lights out of 10.

i tried to gently pull out the power supply card, but i didn't want to break anything and thought i'd ask around before using force.

the machine is working quite fine with the new belt, though. maybe the filter caps aren't a huge concern...

i really don't know.
any help would be appreciated.

bob.

I don't know about the power supply, but I have pulled out the mixer cards before and it took a lot of force. Over the years these contacts get pretty tight...I assume it has to do with the metals, or dust, or who knows.

so maybe just some deoxit style lube and some force?

i tried to get with a flashlight in there to examine the 'white-ish connector parts' that the 2 cards hook up with - trying to see if it was something like half the connector went with one board and the other half with the motherboard, or if the card just simply slid into the connectors like RAM chips, but couldn't tell.
