If you smoke then you spend most of your time stinking of a smell not so very far from the smell of dog-shit.

Given the choice, would your friends/acquaintances rather that you didn't stink most of the time?

I'd guess yes.

Er, yes? I mean, either these things are not exclusive, or I don't know what you're asking.

I mean do you think "Ugh, I hate how you smell and don't want to be near you" or do you think "Hey, that's just how you smell. Lets go make pancakes!"

Oh. The latter. But if you replace "pancakes" with "love," then back to the former.

I can't stand the smell on my own clothes. I don't smoke anymore, but until they bring in a blanket ban on fagging in pubs, bars and music venues I just have to deal with smelling like a barbecued butt-plug after a night out. It's stinky on me and it's stinky on you. Cut that shit out. Cut it out now.

I don't smoke, and it kind of bugs me most of the time when my friends smoke around me. Not usually enough that I get all self righteous and name drop cancer, or anything. I just kind of think to myself "hey, I wish this person would stop smoking around me...cough."

The times it bugs me the most are whenever cold weather is involved. I hate it when I'm in a car with someone and it's freezing ass cold outside, and they have to open the window a bit to let the smoke out. I mean, it's their car, they can do what they want (I sure as shit don't let anyone smoke when riding in my car), but still, have some courtesy for the skinny dude that is freezing his ass off in your car because you absolutely have to smoke and it's below zero outside.

It also bugs the shit out of me when I'm trying to get something accomplished with someone and they have to keep taking a damn smoking break all the time. Especially if you're having a long conversation or planning something out and you have to go to some horrible outside location that is designated for smoking to talk with them. This is more of a workplace problem, though.

I've been a non-smoker my whole life (unless you count my brief occasionally-smoking-swisher-sweets-because-they're-obnoxious phase 10 years ago), mainly because i grew up in a home where my dad chain smoked for about 25 years straight, until he got the cancer in his throat and had to stop. The last two girls i dated smoked.

I really don't care. I've been used to the smell all my life, so that doesn't bother me. It's not my place to tell people what to do with their bodies, so that doesn't bother me. I figure i'm just as likely to give myself cancer from being in the sun too long or eating red meat or about 50 other things than from breathing second-hand smoke. So, honestly, i really don't care.

I have noticed lately, though, that smokers are becoming more self-conscious about it. Whenever i'm at dinner with a smoker they always check to make sure i won't be offended if they start smoking while i'm still eating. This is a recent development. No one EVER cared about that, like, three years ago. So it throws me off every time; i'm all "huh? Why do you think i'd get mad if you smoke now? I can still taste my burritos! Smoke up!"

Being a non-smoker, i see smoke in a public area as two categories, direct second hand smoke and accumulated enviornmental second hand smoke.

With direct second hand smoke you should be able to rightfully ask someone to back up, put it out, or move away. Second hand enviornmental smoke you cant do much about because of the number of smokers. Tough luck, get out of there.

I dont mind smokers but it's reasonable to avoid a non smoker if they request their freedom of relatively clean air space.

i agree w/the doc, people seem to being more considerate now than before which is really cool. or maybe it's just my friends and myself are both older now. yeah i do think they smell bad but that's thier thing.

i used to do it with a smoker, and i always thought her mouth/breath was kinda gross. which was a turn off and turn on at the same time i guess.

i hate the way my clothes smell after going out to a real smokey place - i have to put them in the laundry first thing the next morning.

as i'm sure you gather - i've pretty much always been a non-smoker.
