Man.
I feel worst about my sense that, in this day and age, no one will really be effected by this. It will be read as some misguided soul's hopeless, ridiculous homage to the 60s, to parlor-room Buddhism, to the idea of right.
Maybe one day I will have the conviction to make my vote with a lighter.

I noticed that there was a page 101 listed, but no link to it. So I typed it in:

I think that says a lot about what kind of relationship you have to have to physicality to consider lighting yourself on fire.

The proper spelling of his name is "Malachi Ritscher". I hope to be able to post any additional memorial information here as soon as I hear.

My wife just forwarded me a Chicago Reader piece on Malachi's death ... this is awful, awful news. Please keep us posted on further developments, and my sincere condolences go out to his friends and colleagues reading this.

Great comments section after the Margasak article. Everyone should read his suicide note, too. Shame on the Trib and Sun-Times for their scant coverage thus far.

A memorial for Malachi will be held this Sunday, November 12th at 5:00pm at the Elastic Arts Foundation which is located at 2830 N. Milwaukee Ave, above the Friendship Chinese Restaurant.
