Band: The Long Blondes.

Agreed, but the old people aren't supposed to understand the young people's music. I understand this band all too well since this band existed when I was younger too.

This band used to be called Sleeper. Before that it was probably called Kenickie.

These people aren't even committed enough to music to either bother learning how to play guitar properly or do something crazy/original with it. The best they can apparently muster is playing a piss-weak version of something already deeply anaemic.

One of their more popular songs (one and never again) is a straight rip-off of 'Happy Hour' by Housemartins for God's sake!

These guys are the musical equivalent of staying in on Friday to tidy your bedroom.

They are squares.

Kenickie made 'Come Out 2 Nite", which can't even be compared to any Sleeper single.

Kenickie inspired hundreds of girls to form/be in bands (see also Sleater Kinney).

Kenickie are an incredibly funny and witty bunch of people.

I can only say...you missed out. I see your analogy, but I think you are wrong. I, and many others, know they were a bit more special than that.

'Come Out 2Nite' was the first thing this Long Blondes song reminded me of when I heard it. Not the music exactly, but the feeling. It's just so...teenage! It has that same elusive, spirit-spritzing electricity in its ether that indie guitar songs have once every year or so. It isn't as magical as 'ComeOut 2 Nite', but it's kicking a ball around in the same field.

For the record: 'Come Out 2 Nite' by Kenickie can proudly sit alongside 'Teenage Kicks' in your music collection. Sleeper have nothing to do with anything.

This argument makes no sense unless you're suggesting that women are inherently shitty at playing and writing music.

Why is it always shitty, ramshackle teen-bands who are said to have 'inspired girls to form bands'? Why not Kate Bush, or Patti Smith or Throwing Muses? Because bands like Kenickie (and Long Blondes et al) get cut a fuck-load of slack by condescending men, and thus the bar is set extremely low.

"Aw, how sweet! A girl trying to play guitar!"

CRAP.
