Checked him out via recommendation from a good friend. Holy Fuck!

Awesome.

"Scott 4" what an amazing record.

The song "World's Strongest Man", made me choked up for the first time in awhile.

Salut Scott Walker & your brand of melancholy. Unlike anything I've ever heard.

NOT CRAP.

I'm going to say it. Scott 4 is no great shakes. About one third great. Sure Seventh Seal is good, but that's mostly because it reminds me of how great the movie is. And The Old Man Is Back Again is pretty great. But the rest, I think it sounds like uninteresting Neil Diamond.

Scotts 1-3 all have great moments, most of which come when he sings Jacques Brel songs, but I don't like any of them all the way through. And while Farmer In The City is probably the best thing he's ever done, the rest of Tilt doesn't hold my interest at all.

SO

While a compilation could be assembled that makes a strong argument for supreme definate not crap status, the bulk of Scott Walker's material makes him only a very slight NOT CRAP in my opinion, and that's only because Jackie is very very good.

I do not feel a huge personal connection with his work, but I believe that Scott Walker is a fascinating musician/artist.

He has a contributed a substantial, singular body of work, and he's not done yet.

Scott Walker is N/C

Scott 4 gets my vote (Duchess and Worlds Strongest Man.....especially the slurpy cello's on the intro).

...yeah, and "Old Man..."... such a hot bass line... that is Scott playing the bass, too! "Get Behind Me" also just soars!..."Hero Of The War" is pretty great, over-the-top lyrics and all.

Scott playing bass? Really? I knew he was a bassist by trade, but I always thought that particular bassline was by Herbie Flowers.

I would love to be wrong on this one!

Scott Walker has a new album out in May, titled Drift.

He was interviewed on The Culture Show on BBC 4. It was weird, in that it seemed very normal.

A documentary has been made about him called 30 Century Man, which shows him working on Drift.

Someone has put the Culture Show segment on youtube.

I need to calm down.
