At my work, before I worked here, there was an A/B between an Apogee Rosetta and the A/D in the Cranesong Spider. The Cranesong had a definite more plesant character.
We're soon getting a HEDD or two here at my work. I'll let you know how those sound once we receive them.
Also, a thought, can the 001 take an external clock? To get a really fair shootout, you should have then running from the same master clock.

ok, here's what i'm looking to do...
could it be possible to have 2 channels of an 8 channel input configuration being converted with the mytek stereo96 and that being routed into 2 channels (s/pdif) of the 8 channel soundcard....then the other 6 inputs of the soundcard being fed through analog line-ins....and the soundcard being externally synced to the mytek's clock (10ps?!?)....has anyone done something similar before? In theory that should improve all 8 channels according to the clock and the first two by the clock and converter as well. this to me seems like a good all around solution for someone who cannot at all afford an 8 channel a/d converter----thanks in advance-

Please do, I'm quite curious about adding the HEDD to my rack.

No, the 001 can't do external clock directly.
