I finally put a pair in one of my guitars. Notes, pictures, and sound samples are here:

I didn't find anything odd about the wiring, and short of having to modify my pickguard, I didn't have any issues. Well - one of the ones I got was wired wrong, so that when hooked up according to their diagram it was out-of-phase. But that's easy to fix.
I have no idea why these aren't hugely popular.

12Good effort there, Herr Governator. Sounds like the Alumitones have more mids, less highs and, if the settings were identical, they are a hell of lot louder.

Both recordings were boosted 2 dB before being turned into mp3s, but they are otherwise as they were recorded.
It seems like most of the volume difference is in the attack. No idea why that is.

14I played Ovipositor's Yamaha with two Alumitone humbuckers tonight.
Holy crap, it sounded amazing! NowI'm wondering what guitar I can put those in for me!

I just took my Alumitones out of my Strat. I miss them already, but I'm too lazy to reinstall them right now. I'll sell them for $75 plus shipping. You be down, Ben Adrian ?

16I have a feeling these probably are going to react adversely with certain pedals...i.e. pedals you normally don't want to buffer.

No.

Tempting, but no guitar in which those would fit. I'm too wrapped up in moving right now to buy a dedicated guitar.
Thanks fo the offer!

They do respond somewhat differently with some pedals, but not necessarily adversely. In a lot of cases better. Having a hotter signal makes a lot of things sing. I've noticed one compressor I often use as a boost/sustain doesn't sound as nice, and a cheapo signal boost I've been using sounds bad, but in general, it's been an easy adjustment.
