Well, I'm pretty sure Steve would. He isn't a "producer", which is why he refers to himself as an engineer.

A producer usually has a lot of input on the sound of a band on record. Watch the documentary of the making of Aerosmith's album Pump for example, and you'll see the producer telling them to change lyrics, guitar parts, etc. Listen to an album recorded by Phil Spector, and you'll hear the "Phil Spector sound". The only thing on a recording that might give away the fact that Steve recorded it is the sound of the drums, and that's not even always the case.

Oh come on! Isn't steve always refered to as a controlling svengali?

Yeah, it is funny that you mention the Pump documentary....I often site that as an example of producers producing a band when discussing a more "documentary-like" approach to recording that Steve favors.....

Also, Pink Floyd is not perfection.

Well, I think that at the very least, we can all agree that Momentary Lapse of Reason is perfectly produced and recorded :)

Oh the whole, they do, but the opening riff to Sorrow is incredible.

Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.

Great production.

As time went on, their production got a little too "big production" for me. I still like it, but as the kids say, I liked their earlier stuff better.

You said that glueman was "so, so wrong" when he pointed to the list of bands recorded at Electrical. I said he was only "wrong" in the sense that they haven't been "produced". I never implied that you were saying Steve or any of the other engineers at Electrical did a "shit job".

not the fact that they haven't been produced... the fact that i can listen to a 30/40 year old album and still feel warm/fuzzy inside because 1*. i don't think anyone has come close to producing/mixing albums as good 2. they also have great songs

*possibly ok computer has if i'm truthful

oh and pink floyd on the whole produced their own albums, which is even more impressive!

Also, Pink Floyd is not perfection.

i think it really is... the recordings , the overdubs, the mixing... you just can't fault it, seriously

very experimental for the time too... ie hard panning on drums and whatnot

true, but they backed up their production with great songs... a rarity for most bands as the plod along through their careers
