12CRAP because too many people I know from Boston think they're the fucking shit. I've met a lot of great Boston natives too...but just because MA has such great schools (or whatever) that does not make you the shit. There is nothing that Boston has that Chicago does not have like five times over...and yet the Midwest so often gets poo-pooed by the Bahstahn people. So irritating. And the Red Sox SUCK!

13Yeah, I got robbed there--that's definitely part of it.
But long before that, when I was living in western Massachusetts, I always found Boston to be a coldly aggressive place. This is not some hillbilly aversion to The Big City either. I love New York, Chicago, London, even Los Angeles in small doses. But I abhor the big red beefsteak faces, the seemingly ubiquitous drunkenness, the loud braying accents, the discombulating speed of it all. It's as fast and as expensive as New York with none of the charm. Three times in Boston total strangers have chastised me for doing something too slowly for their liking. This has never happened to me anywhere else. I am proud to say that I only threatened bodily harm in one of these instances.
I always enjoyed going to Fenway though; that's Boston at its best. And that Come/Antietam show at the Middle East was great.
But for a city of its size, what kind of musical legacy does it really offer? The Cars. Boston. Aerosmith. SS Decontrol. Gang Green. Okay, there's the Modern Lovers and Burma. But beyond that?
Now Lowell--that's a whole 'nother story. I love that town. But Boston, Massachusetts? That place ain't worth a damn.

14Boston is CRAP.
Mean drivers, nasty attitudes, mongo-like jocks in every bar (sorry, BAAAAHH), and only one or two decent clubs.
As Brett Eugene Ralph pointed out, for a city that size, there should be much more good stuff.
I still work in the industrial suburbs of Boston, but I've since moved to NH because it's goddamn beautiful up here. A deer ran out in front of my car last week as I drove onto our street. And last year a friggin' moose was having a grand old time standing around my backyard. You don't get too many of them in Beantown.

Pixies and Galaxie 500. That's seven decent bands. That's quite impressive.

17Lets get a few things straight here:
Little Italy does not exist in Boston, I believe there is one in Baltimore and New York. We have the North End which is predominantly Italian and is quite nice.
A musical legacy involving S.S. Decontrol, Gangreen, Come, Volcano Suns, Mission of Burma, Bullet Lavolta, etc in my mind is pretty solid.
The Red Sox do not suck, neither do the Patriots.
Doing anything too slowly and holding anyone else up is reason to be chastised.

18Not crap when you're 19-24. After that you get tired of eating Ramen, working at Newberry Comics, living with 8 people in a 6 bed house with little to no heat, playing in a band at the same 3 places and fighting off drunk BU/BC frat kids on the B line.

The Pixies are from western Massacusetts. And they are not a decent band.
