4 Microphone Drum setup.

I'm a big fan of the Sennheiser 421 on the kick. I use it on the toms as well but that will definitely go over your budget.
you could also try some heil mics.
pr-20 snr
pr-30 tom
pr-40 kik
and the oktavas as oh
that should be about $900
though i haven't used them,
but they are earning quite a reputation.
