Adam, if you paid in Pounds Sterling, then the receiving bank may charge for conversion.
Banks in the UK absolutely hump you for an IBAN transfer. I paid £15 plus the most exorbitant exchange rate when I last did. I tend to send cash insured.

I paid £13 for the privilege of the transfer, and this guy's (German) bank helped itself to another 8 Euros. Thus the guy is (as far as he is concerned) down 8 Euros.
Apparently those in the know don't buy from Germany because it's the norm there to do everything by SWIFT/IBAN and in non-Euro-using countries you get fucked with the charges. German sellers demand all charges are paid by the buyer.
Interestingly (perhaps not), there are a bunch of UK Ebayers with Euro accounts who will make the payment on your behalf for far less than the banks charge, you just need to make a UK-UK transfer to their account.
