Teen-aged and viewed from the front row of the theater so the screen filled my entire field of vision and the big ass speakers were like 15' from me: pretty great.
Viewed since on TV: pretty good.
Movie: Akira
12It's highly possible that this is the best animation ever made. If you like animation, chances are you like akira.
I love animation, so akira is definitely in my top 5 films of all time.

personally, i wouldn't go that far (Hayao Myazaki, anyone?), but still Akira is superb.

15Akira, the original cut, is one of the first works of animation to take physics seriously - this is why it's a great film. Without all the race scenes and the specific attention to physical detail the metamorphosis at the end means nothing.
Akira is to animation as Watchmen is to comics.
And if you watched the dubbed/edited version - you're missing out.
Not crap.
Only problem with Akira is, after I watch it I make all the funny grunts and exclamations the characters make - like when I open the fridge for a drink, it's all, "uuggggh! WOOSH! squeek, huh? Wha? Eeeek! Grrr!"

18I love this film and must have seen it loads of times. And it was also my introduction to japanese animation. One of those films that baffled me the first few times i watched it, it kind of makes sense now. It's also a great depiction of future dystopia, etc.
NOT CRAP.
NOT CRAP.

20beautiful, so much detail in this painstakingly hand-drawn masterpiece. the atmosphere the film has is something else.
