Seeing Sunn live was pretty extreme. They created this 90 minute din. My shirt was vibrating against my chest at a few moments. I haven't heard louder... but I have a feeling there may be louder than Sunn.

A good fucking show. I felt like I'd recieved an audio shower afterwords.

hi there. i was at that show last night, in fact i was mixing it. the guy doing monitors said he took a reading on the stage at one point that was around 125dB, but im not sure if he left the meter sitting on something which would have given a false reading from mechanical coupling of the mic to whatever was vibrating. my guess was that the crazier parts were in the 120s somewhere out in the audience. as far as low end extension goes, i dont think there was much going on below 30hz, as the sound system and physical size of the room would allow for such frequencies to happen. fyi, the amps they use tend to vibrate themselves apart after a few shows due to excessive vibration. its quite the chore to keep it all running. glad you liked (?) it.

yes very much in control. there isn't a whole lot you can do if the sound system is shit, but this one isn't. i mean, it might be really hard to hear the vocals for example, if i had no control over the sound. i also put the whole mix through a ringmod pedal last night too. that was fun.

i love watching people at sunn gigs, seeing how fucking surprised they look at how loud it is.

even funnier are the guys who are clearly scenesters, who leave once the drones start.

shitload of scenesters at their gigs in the uk, they leave really early on.

Last time i saw Sunn i managed to drop one of my earplugs onto the floor of a packed venue just as they were about to hit their first chord. ARGGGHHHH!!!

I'd say that Khanate were louder the time i saw them perform (in the same venue where Sunn played) though - you could hear them soundchecking from about half a mile down the road. Great gig!

I read in this month's issue of Wire a review about Borealis Festival in Norway. Sunn O))) played there in a cathedral and apparently they used the big church organ.

I saw Sunn at the Hippodrome and was a little dissappointed at the volume. I could hear people talking over the top of it.

The loudest band I ever saw was Wolves Of Greece with Lightning Bolt at the ICA.

Yeah, that gig was pretty damn loud - i drove some of the band down to that one.

When the lighting technicians asked Neil, one of the guitarists for Wolves what the band wanted the lights to be like when they played, he said 'Make it look like War'
