I don't go out of my way to watch it but I wouldn't say it's Crap and enjoy it when I come across it.
Two men physically fighting (with skill especially - and there is a hell of a lot in this) is dramatic.
Hence this is exciting to watch.
Could someone who has said Crap tell us why please? Or at least, tell us why you think it is.
If you just say 'it's barbaric' I shall assume you have just been started in a pub and fannied out and to counter your humiliation you decided to place yourself on some kind of non existent pedestal and verbally attack people who get a kick out of this sort of thing.

i don't have a problem with the ufc. if anything, i think it's given me a perspective on what fighting is really like -- karate kicks are useless; it's all on the ground, grappling and choking and facepounding.
but...

who's on the pedestal? i believe making that kind of assumption is mounting the non-existent pedestal.

Why
the non existent pedestal as opposed to
a non existent pedestal?
If someone feels strongly enough about it we can just argue from our respective pedestals.
That's usually what happens around here anyway.

Greased men in tights rolling around on the floor together.
Not even a little bit interested.

Doesn't anyone else think this is just a tad homoerotic?
Anyway, the real reason for it being crap is that it feels stupid whenever I see it - like it's just a bunch of jocks trying out their Bruce Lee fetishes on each other.

UFC and mixed martial arts in general is awesome. The UFC was created by the Gracie family, who developed Brazilian Jiu Jitsu over 50 years ago. Jiu Jitsu teaches a form of grappling that lets a weak person use a strong person's strength against them. It allows a little guy to beat a big guy. When the Gracies formed the league, Royce Gracie would compete and defeat the biggest and strongest heavyweight boxers, kickboxers and wrestlers. Royce was only 180 pounds and well into his 40's. Jiu Jitsu is fascinating to watch, once you learn a bit about it and know what you are looking at. It sounds cliche, but it's a physical chess match. Any UFC fighter who does not become an expert in Jiu Jitsu will almost certainly always be defeated by someone who is.
This video is very cool. It shows one of the Gracie family about fifty years ago, giving a demonstration. The best parts are a few minutes into it. The guy was about 60 when this was filmed.

Well, Pride is dead and the other leagues are just trying to ride ufc's coat tails. Affliction? I paid the 39 bucks for that card. The production values made it look like a video tape of a wrestling match from the mid 1980's. And they shot their whole wad paying the fighters the stupid money they paid them. Affliction already asked the fighters to take a 50% pay cut for the next one.
ufc certainly has its problems, but they are solely responsible for bringing mma into the mainstream, getting it sanctioned, and getting some better rules. And they have an absolute zero tolerance policy regarding steroids, they even stripped the belt from one of their champions when he tested positive (Sean Sherk). Whereas everyone in Pride was juicing because they didn't even get tested there.

joe rogan is a douche bag.
that is what UFC reminds of me off. gracie jiu jitsu is interesting in itself, but so dumb made into a sport. target market is probably 20 year old males and 40 year old frat guys.
