Alice Cooper wrote some great songs, was friends with Frank Zappa, and was in John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness.

Marilyn Manson wrote no great songs, was friends with Trent Reznor, and was in Jawbreaker.

AC: NC.

Great, play the "old guy" card. "Dinosaur". That's the best you can do?

What Alice Cooper albums have you really listened to? And fucking GWAR? Yeah, very memorable music there pal.

You have tin ears, you do not understand Rock and Roll. Stick to your slappin' and poppin' weird-o crap. It's so new, you're so young.

I've heard all the early AC stuff, and love it. I've heard lot's of MM stuff, and hate it.

Since you bring it up, I have seen and enjoyed Gwar, more for their performances then their music though, although that is amusing too. Haven't seen them in about 10 years, when I took my kid to see them, and we both ended up covered in stage blood.

I'd be willing to bet my kid feels the same way about AC and MM as I do, but maybe I have brainwashed him, so he doesn't have a true understanding of good modern music.

I guess because I too am an older guy, my opinion is not valid.

There's plenty of newer music I like, almost all in the noise/industrial/neofolk vein.

MM blows chunks. There isn't even a contest here.

MM and NIN would probably be a better contest. MM would still lose.

Boombats wrote:I must give props to Cooper for being the first, but:

Alice Cooper's music was boring.

Alice Cooper is conservative in real life.

Marilyn Manson's first album or two had some legitimate industrial rock goodness.

Manson has said some real shit, while Cooper doesn't rock the boat.

But:

Cooper's got a better voice.

Hmmm I'm going to have to go with Manson even though he is a type of fashion model. The music was better and the ideas were too. Cooper is the O.G. but so was Ice T and his shit was pretty terrible until Bodycount.

Next to whoever it was that posted wearing shorts is crap this post has to be the silliest an most uninformed post I've ever read in this particular forum. Maybe I'm a bit biased and very opinionated because I freakin' love Alice Cooper, but I would think that anyone who appreciates a tight band would find enjoyment in albums like Easy Action, Killer, Love it to Death[/i], Billion Dollar Babies, School's Out, and Muscle of Love. Hell, I'll even support Welcome to My Nightmare. You don't like his music, fine, but to call it "boring" is dumb. Check out "Still No Air" from Easy Action, or, "Ballad of Dwight Fry" from Love it to Death and then come back with your accusations of being boring.

Addressing Alice Cooper's conservative views is peripheral at best. If I'm not mistaken Johnny Ramone's stance was right-leaning, but I'm sure you're not going to go ahead and state that Mark Hoppus has more legitimacy and relevancy in punk rock because of this, or, are you?

Marilyn Manson's first two albums did not have legitimate industrial rock goodness. They didn't. Unfortunately I was assaulted with MM's sideshow on his first jaunt across the USA supporting Nine Inch Nails. His band's musicianship was a joke. He was a joke. I was offended and insulted. Granted with time a band can become tighter and in the process begin to write interesting, albeit derivative rock songs, but Alice Cooper's shit was on point right out the gate.

And since you brought age into this matter only an uniformed kid would ever make such ludicrous, comical, and ignorant claims like you have done in this thread. Like I wrote earlier, if you don't like Alice Cooper's music then that's your bag, but to state that Marilyn Manson has the upper-hand musically is fucking dumb.

You are wrong.

I'm guessing i'm closer to your age, Boombats, than Zom-Zom is. That being said:

Zom-Zom wrote:You're out of your mind.

The Alice Cooper Band did some of the best hard rock in the '70s, and some of the weirdest rock in the '60s.
"Marilyn" is absolute shite. Have you ever listened to "Pretties for You",
"Easy Action", "Love it to Death"?

So, he's a Conservative. He's also a pretty decent guy from what I've heard.

Tons of great songs, an original act, excellent band.

Killer, School's Out, and Billion Dollar Babies era Alice is so much more stylish and fun. Plus he had Zappa's early patronage. Recently, I was in a pizza joint and these kids roughly ten years old or so knew the damn lyrics to School's Out when it came on the jukebox. They were singing along with their dad. Strange.

The original Alice Cooper band were amazing, and up until he fired them they made some great albums.

Manson was such a parody of himself to begin with. I almost have to wonder if he's so unintentionally funny that it's actually intentional.
Still, he did inspire school shootings.

Coop still gets the upper hand all the way. Even if he is a golfer and once had Steve Vai in his band.

Hey, didn't Iggy used to play a game or two with Alice? Alice is also a restauranteur.

The song "Billion Dollar Babies" by AC is a monster. It blows anything MM ever did out of the water.

Even the slightest song on Killer crushes anything by MM.

If I cared about the politics of musicians, I would need to get rid of at least half of my record collection. I don't vote for musicians, I just listen to them. Artists do not make the best politicians, in fact, often times they make the worst politicians.

And sometimes bad artists make even worse politicians. Like actor Ronal Reagan.
