I would post details of the exchange but I fear invoking the wrath of the C-B. That's not a joke. All my reading of his threads has made be paranoid, and besides he's not very nice when he's angry.
Yes,
possibly significant. Key word: possibly. Unless something happens today, it's just fearmongering. It's fuckin' George Bush stuff.
Throwing out a date on your signature (when you're a well-known conspiracy theorist) without explaining it...telling us to fuckin' duct tape our doors and not explaining it...you could argue that there's a difference between these two things, but I think that I make my point.
I have a ton of respect for Bob, but if you dare to go up against him, he reams you...and not
always with the facts...sometimes it's with personal attacks.
I don't know what the deal with September 11th is exactly...I saw some planes hit some damn buildings, that's for goddamn sure, but I also
know the following:
1) My cell phone does not work on a plane. It never has. It gets no service. I've checked this repeatedly, and my phone is not a piece of crap.
2) The BBC reported that WTC 7 had collapsed when you can clearly see (approximately an hour before the actual collapse) World Trade Center 7 STILL STANDING in the NYC backdrop during the report.
3) As far as I know, the Twin Towers are the only steel skyscraper-type buildings to collapse as a result of fire ("official" explanation).
4) George W. Bush is a piece of shit, and is almost certainly the worst president we've ever had. I begged my dad not to vote for him in 2000 (I could not vote yet, but I supported Nader). My dad now says that vote is now one of his greatest regrets (symbolic as it may have been). He lied, cheated, and swindled the American people all the way into office.
5) A ton of people reported explosions. You can see plenty of footage of tiny explosions all over the building before and after it went down. It looked like a planned demolition, that's for sure. Additionally, security at the buildings was scaled way back in the week or so before the attack.
6) In 2001, the internet was not nearly as realized as it is now. The tools were there, but people were not using them properly yet. There was no fucking YouTube, that's for sure. If it was an inside job (hey, this sort of thing is common in the course of human history...riling up the people for war with some fake bullshit), the insiders were fuckin' lazy and didn't realize that we were living in an age of information abundance. What might have worked in 1963 was no longer sufficient in 2001.
7) The Bush Administration routinely lies about
everything, even when the lies are obviously lies...because the American people have been
Brave New World-ed into idiocy...and not nearly enough people give a shit...most Americans
want to believe what their government says, (even though it's pretty clear that in 2007, Americans no longer believe
this particular government).
That being said, my quarrel is with the methods that Clocker Bob sometimes uses. He often plays right into the hands of right-wingers who would
love to portray him as a conspiracy nut. Bob is passionate, vocal, and occasionally lets his emotion get the best of him. A UW-Madison professor that is pretty vocal on campus recently flew to Morocco to "find" one of the September 11th hijackers alive. Of course, said hijacker won't be found. This sort of reckless media persona fucks the 9/11 Truth cause.
Of course, if you're like me, and you try to keep an open mind to both sides of the political spectrum (even though I believe the right-wing is essentially bonkers), if you speak out on an issue like September 11th...hell...even global warming, you'll just get branded as a crazy anyway. If the right wants to smear you, they'll smear you no matter what...and they'll do a good fucking job of it. Kerry was dumb, but they managed to turn his heroism in Vietnam into a liability (just like the right-wingers coyly said they would in the Chicago Tribune
months before it happened). What I'm saying is, perhaps it is wise to just be as balls out/off the handle (<- you choose the adjective) about one's convictions as Clocker Bob is...you might as well.
But fearmongering...like the 06-11-07 signature (with no explanation)...is the stuff of right-wing bullshit.
