Order it online.
Get the person to ship so you have to sign for it...nothing like vinyl baking in the sun because you won't be home for a few hours.
It works.
Local Record Shop - How much Slack?
12I stopped in at Permanent Records here in Chicago today, and asked the nice young couple who own and run it for two copies of EIG. I gave them $30.50, and they gave me two copies on vinyl. I made a joke about "you guys didn't take out the cd, did you?!?!" and they hadn't even heard of jackasses doing this. I left happy. Listened to the cd twice today, and will check out the vinyl at some point in the near future.
That doesn't answer your question, so much as it describes how this process is supposed to work.

indeed. shellac isn't exactly super obscure stuff. the demand was there, supply was not--record store's bad for not keeping pace. i usually buy with insound, which i guess isn't that creative, but you get free stickers and shit dood. have never had a problem with vinyl in the mail.

14Cut 'em some slack. Ask them to order it for you, and hold it till you get there. Local shops are disappearing faster than sitcoms, they need business.

It's the only way I'll be able to achieve the sound I hear in my head.

16Buy local first, then move on to the internet. I buy LPs off ebay all the time, and I've only once received less then advertised - a cut-out. Never got a damaged LP from ebay.

17princeton record exchange, the store in question -- i find it absolutely great for having a massive massive bargain bin (more like big wall) which contains good stuff (uz jsme doma for $3? hell yeah). they seem like a good store, sorry they didn't have the shellac lp but maybe they could order it and hold it for you?

Today was the last straw. I search the store for the new shellac LP. I will buy 2 copies. No dice. I ask at the front counter, no they do not have the LP only the CD. Are you getting more in? Did you stock it but ran out, or do I need to special order it? Guy looks at the computer: I don't know. I don't think we ever had it on LP.
I tried, I really did. I waited, made a special trip during lunch, paid to park.... Should I just say fuckit and order it online somewhere? Where? I really want to support the local place, but it's not like I have time to keep going back there until they get what I want.
I went to Reckless on Milwaukee(here in Chicago) the very day the album came out and they didn't have it in stock. Not sold out, just not in stock. A week later, they have many copies in stock. Shit happens, sometimes they just don't have it, sometimes they do. Who knows. It's good to order, so try that.

19To be completely obvious; you could order
Todd's Excellent Hound, online, from
Touch and Go Records.
In fact, you can order directly from most labels.
Online.
Correction: You have to call 1-800-3-TOUCHU to order
CDs/LPs from T&G. (Change is good?)
