Until he started working exclusively with big stars, Butch made a bunch of great, simple rock records. Killdozer, Appliances, Laughing Hyenas, Die Kreuzen, etc. He is (or was) a good engineer who made good records. He only works on horrible music now, so it isn't entirely his fault, except in some meta-choice-forcing-hand way.

In his defense, Rick Rubin was in Hose, who had a great single and decent LP, and he likes some good music.
