i don't think i can add anything else that hasn't already been said.

1. split a signal with an ABY box, or a box with two outs into two stacks.
2. or run the pre out into the power in of another.

either way you'll need two cabs.

That's a V4, not an SVT, right? The tube one?

Also, you don't need two cabs at all, as evidenced by this photo with only one cab. If you use two separate power amp sections, you can either use a stereo cab or two separate cabs... but if you use a setup like Rich uses, like what you describe as #2 above, you don't need more than one cab because you're not using more than one power amp section. Just the one in the second amp.

The top head I use as a distortion box. I have the gain all the way up and it has a ton of knobs to dial in the EQ, which I have most of them cranked to give me more gain and back down the EQ that I don't want(low mids, highest highs). Then I take the line out into the front of the V4 to get more gain and to warm up the sound. I have a master volume mod on the V4 as well. The combination is how I can control the feedback, otherwise it would all be high pitched and uncontrollable. I use the volume on my Stingray 5 to clean up the signal a little for softer parts in songs. For the active settings on the bass, I have the treble and mid EQ at full and the bass control at the center notch. I bring back more of the lows on the V4 or else things would get muddy. Also, a stock Ampeg 2x15 breaks up the way I want it to. I can only get away with this because the top head is solid state and doesn't need a load. No other bass that I've tried so far on this setup sounds good. Basically, just try out different things until you find what's in your head, experiment with gear. Also, I warn that I constantly blow speakers with this setup but that's the price I pay for the sound I want.

DON'T DO THIS WITH TWO TUBE HEADS, TUBE HEADS NEED A LOAD!!!
if things got simple now i'd probably lose my mind. -samiam-
