I'm not trying to be a smart-ass. But, honestly, this is just part of being in a band...experimentation...trying to figure out what works for you. You obviously have a lot of different things you have to work out (considering you have several threads open, as well as your drummer's issues) before you're gonna be happy. I use a very similar setup and it took me a long time to figure out all of the different pieces before I was happy. Just play around with this shit. That's half the fun.

I just found out a week or two ago that I prefer the sound of a ported 4x10" and a sealed 2x12" cabinet to a sealed 8x10", as it's got deeper bass, better defined bass, less low-mid congestion, and clearer highs. First thing I would try is getting rid of the 8x10" and trying a ported 2x15" instead. That could get you where you need to be without adding a second huge cab.

i don't see myself getting rid of the 8x10 - i love how it sounds. i just want to supplement it. everyone around here is very pro 2x15/dietz - so i have to take that with a grain of salt. personally, if it can give me the lows i want, then by all means, i'm down. that isn't to say i don't value the recommendation - you guys are always great.

oh, believe me, we've been experimenting out our wazoos, but i think we're getting sick of blowing speakers and throwing down cash on gear to only sell it a short while later. or at least, i'm getting sick of that. that and
i just like having open threads. ;) but yeah, we're having a blast while doing it and driving the people in the adjoining practice spaces nuts. it was all worth while when we finally played out last week and we rattled organs.
but i've been doing this for a while now, and i'm pretty happy w/ what i have. just want to take it to that next step.

still - a new 18" - what should i be looking for...?

and what's yr set up, who you playing w/ and anything i can hear christopher?

best,

Yes I am, I have the speaker and all I need is to buy the woods. What's holding me is a few questions I have regarding the cabinet cleats which Im too lazy to ask. I wrote all of the measurements down I just need to verify them.

thanks james - i found those ev 18"s as well and was just about to ask about them.

turns out the mccauleys are crazy expensive - about 800-900 a pair.

i found the ev proline, and it's affordable - but it's only 400 watts - i'm concerned that's not enough.

if ya'll can check out this link and let me know yr thoughts - can i load this into the 371...? it shouldn't blow my svt blueline, right...? the svt can handle 4ohms and it's putting out 300 watts.

That EV seems right. There's no danger to your SVT as long as you use the right cables and the ohms match, right?

If you don't want to spend $560 though, you can get a decent 18" speaker from Carvin. It's 800W, $159, and comes in 4 Ohms and 8 Ohms

i'd worry more about the speaker than the svt.

the svt can probably handle it, the speaker will die if it can't.

the svt also runs at 8ohms right?

Man, His Hero Is Gone.

I haven't heard that band for ages.

Monuments To Thieves is a great record. I didn't get into Tragedy (the band) as much, but HHIG were awesome. I reckon I might try and find Monuments to Thieves this weekend.
