Tough call, but I'm going with Judas Priest. First of all, that's an unbelievably stupid name to be so successful under. Second of all, I actually like the Turbo album. Third of all, Rocka Rolla is an underappreciated gem. "Bob" Halford plays harmonica!

I'm glad I did. They still got it. Low on Turbo Lover, high on Living After Midnight. As with a lot of re-formed bands, they are shaking the money makers and forgetting about the "little experiment" they had in the late 80s.

The drummer who's in place of Dave "Kiddie Porn" Holland is solid as a rock, and just as ugly as Dave Holland!

Just watched Iron Maiden the early Years DVD. Maiden all the way. Great band. And the first record is tops no matter how old you get.

i like paul di'anno though too, and that early stuff is, to me, better punk than most "real punk".

iron maiden had a better influence on music as a whole.
judas priest, though, had more consistently good music.

my inclination is to vote priest because i prefer listening to them, but i feel like i can't really pick it over maiden because the nintendo music that was such a powerful formative experience would not have existed if not for "the trooper" (mega man, for instance...). "the trooper" kicks ass.

but also, judas priest came first. and no castlevania music without early priest gems like "the ripper".

plus, if we have to bring gayness into it, clearly halford has to be pretty badass to come out.
