I think the Bruno character is actually pretty underrated. I find it pretty telling that out of the three characters, Bruno inspires the most ire, rage and death threats. Did you see the one where he was dancing (pretty innocuously) with the cheerleaders at an U. of Alabama football game? Christ, I thought the crowd was going to lynch him.

Stewie, I too loved the spring break episode. What I really loved is how, before revealing that it was Gay TV, the wrestlers were more than happy to take a tumble with Bruno. If I remember correctly, Bruno was kind of pawing at them awkwardly, acting real submissive while these kids had no problem rolling around in the sand with him. Whenever the wrestler pinned him, he always made sure that they were locked in an overtly sexual position.

The part where he has each jock shout a different word in some kind of "SPRING BREAK RULES!" group-holler clearly demonstrates Sacha's genius. It should be noted that before revealing the Gay TV angle, he makes sure to really push them to the brink. He gets them all psyched up shouting out this phrase, having them redo it after each take, telling them that it was "weak." He does this until they're screaming so loud that their faces turn purple. This is after something like the seventh take. They're now in full-on, dick-waving testosterone mode, jumping around howling, thumping their chests.

Since they've just spent about 15 minutes screaming until their voices go hoarse, jumping around, he has no problem getting them to bare their asses on camera in the middle of all this (I remember one of them was more than happy to spank his own ass raw). At this point, they're a little more than "worked-up."

When around this time Bruno breaks the news that they're on Gay TV, their homoerotic breast-beating quickly turns into a kind of barely-restrained violence towards Bruno and his crew. It's actually somewhat frightening.

ginandtacos.com wrote:Complete and utter shit. A show for white people to sit around and enjoy the comedic value inherent in how those wacky negroes and foreigners talk. Vociferously defended by people who would be offended if he came out in blackface and did a little Sambo dance - even though what he does isn't a whole lot different.

I disagree. I haven't seen that much of Ali G, but from what I have had the pleasure of catching, the show very cleverly reveals racism and homophobia; it is not exploitative.
