Need help recording drums-snare

Based on what you've said, EQ-wise I'd guess a cut centered somewhere around 150 - 200 Hz (with a Q of maybe 2 or 4 if you can adjust it) might help. A lot depends on what frequencies the low end of the body of the snare are working at. I've usually found the lowest useful "body" frequency of a snare falls somewhere in the 200-500Hz range. Anything less than a couple-few hundred hertz is often clutter.
And a slight boost, maybe just a couple dB, around 2K to 8K, somewhere in that range, whatever brings out the sharpness a little more without sounding too harsh.
Tuning it differently coul totally help, too, I can't say for sure.
How does the snare itself sound? Can you post an MP3 of the recorded snare somewhere on the net?
