I saw them on a big poster for Kool cigarettes advertising a tour they were on.

Total Crap

While admittedly I probably haven't given these guys enough of a chance, what I have heard is crap. While I'm sure they're good to actually see, I hate the live recordings.

Every song seems like:
Two minutes of "YO, YO....YO"
Two minutes of what sounds like tuning a keyboard
Two more minutes of "YO, YO....YO"

Start the fucking song already guys.

Huge amount of the music my wife likes is by hippies or hippie-influenced. And she loves the Roots. Guess it figures....

They're OK. But I find it hard to listen to a Roots album all the way through.

This I'll agree with. Phrenology and Things Fall Apart are both good records (and Phrenology was close to being great), but both of them start to seriously drag after a while.

This is definitely a band with the "fill-up-a-CD" album length problem. CD's don't have to be 60-70 minutes long.
