R.E.M.? "Reckoning"- and "Fables"-era? Live on XM?

"So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)"?
"9-9"?
"Old Man Kensey"?
"Auctioneer (Another Engine)"?

That is some beautiful rock music. Sign me up.

I have no family or friends in Idaho.

Yup, heard all of the above. They opened the show with "Hyena," but that was the only song from "Lifes Rich Pageant" they played, so it must've been before it came out. Kind of ballsy to open a show with a song nobody had probably heard.

What's interesting about this Cure show they're playing is how much the rhythm section sounds like the Berry/Mills. They both have that '80s new wave danceable thing going on.

bradley, i don't get it then, at all. with your answer, i thought you were drawing some kind of parallel, just as i'm moving back to chicago because that's where all of my family and many of my friends are, that's why you moved back to boise. i clearly didn't understand your answer then. the other reason i'm moving back to chicago is that i find it to be, in general, a much better town to live in than DC. i automatically assumed you weren't suggesting that boise is a better town to live in than chicago. so i guess i didn't even remotely understand your answer to my question then. why *did* you move to boise if not to be near family and/or friends?

oh SHIT! i think i just got it now, you had to get outta chicago cause you knew i'd be moving back shortly? okay, now i get it, right? it was a slam? shit maign! nicely executed. or am i still clueless? okay, i'll save you the trouble of responding "both".

thanks for your answer then.

We do that all the time. It's called relative obscurity. I didn't know we were ballsy for it, too. Amazing.

gmilner wrote:I like the idea of regional radio, but as far as I'm concerned Clear Channel and Viacom have pretty much made radio the same nationally anyway. On a lot of stations, there's not even a live DJ, just someone taped at a studio somewhere and shipped with the playlist.

Weirdly, I'm reading this post as I sit in a cafe near my house in Brooklyn (yeah, I'm one of those annoying guys today), and this place is playing satellite radio right now--XM, I think. They're playing a live, ununinterrupted R.E.M. show from London in what sounds like '85 or so. I have no idea what channel it is or anything. I know the general feeling about R.E.M. on this board, but I have to say it's bringing back lots of nice memories, and it sounds a lot better than the crappy R.E.M. show I saw around the same time.

They just announced it--it is XM, and this is some sort of channel devoted to live shows, and right now it's all stuff taped for the BBC. Okay, now it's the Cure live from Birmingham...

The "not even a live dj" reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Bart chooses to win an elephant.

XM is worth the $10 a month-get it.

S/XM: "I'm sorry, sir. We do not offer Major League Baseball at this time. Is there anything else that I can help you with today?"

that makes this seem sort of half-hearted.
