Not my first, but most recent, and it's Chicago-related!

I bought a record by Don L. Lee called "Rappin' & Readin'."

It's a privately pressed record on Broadside (LP BR-1). Don is on some Black Nationalist vibe, reading poetry, and generally shedding light. He's got a charming voice.

Searching for Don Lee didn't turn up much, but I learned he changed his name to Haki R. Madhubuti and released two other spiritual jazz poetry records called "Rise Vision Coming" and "Madasi."

Lee/Madhubuti was a Chicago cat who released a slew of small-run books as well as the three lps. The latter were released on the Nation House label, an empowerment cooperative based in both Chicago and DC.

Madhubuti/Lee is still very active in the literary world and he owns and operates the successful Third World Press in Chicago.

I recently ordered cd reissues of his two latter albums as well as a book of poetry. Check him out, he is a solid guy.
