I had a strat style Squire Bullet with one humbucker, one volume knob, and that's it. Sounded great. Other than that.....seconded.
There's one of them and pawn store near work. I
think it's under $200. Ugly shade of (metallic?) blue with a black scratchplate though.

The guitar used on the song "Centerfield" by John Fogerty. Probably a Strat.

My first guitar was a Bently fat strat knockoff (two single coils at neck/middle, humbucker in the bridge). I didn't know anything about guitars, and mom and dad were buying, and they knew even less about guitars. It looked cool with a semi-transparent red finish, sounded alright (as far as I know--back then I knew shit about shit), but then one day the bridge just started pulling the wood apart where it was anchored. From the sheer force of the .09 guage strings that were on it. Amazingly, I sold it to a music store for $200 and got a mexican fat strat...which had the most microphonic pickup I've ever encountered.
