Is it just me or do bass amps often have retarded douchbaggery like exciters and shit all over'em?

I did see a 2X12 fliptop guitar amp (model escapes me) on Ebay the other day and almost sold my car to get it.

Ahem. My B-18-X from 1965 has a tweeter, or some kind of HF horn. But that's so you can use it as a guitar amp as well as a bass amp (it also has reverb and tremolo). And it's the best sounding amp I've ever heard. And it is a portaflex. Don't tell me it's not also an amazing bass amp. The thing's got a freakin 18 inch speaker!

I ain't say'n your amp is a turd. I have just noticed that a lot of bass amps (especially newer ones) have a lot of extra crap like exciters and weird extra eqs and the like. I saw an amp (I think a SWR) that ahd a 4 band with knobs, a low pass filter and a 5 or 7 band graphic eq along with a octave generator and a presence knob. That's a lot of shit on an amp. B15 just has Bass, Mid, Treb and sounds killer.

of course! my main bass amp is one them new-fangled Ashdown heads. It's got all kinds of fancy EQ, "valve-drive", subharmonic generator, etc. I turn it all off, set my input and output to 12 and just play music.
