I respect Stevie Wonder, but I've always thought he was overrated. I'd put Sly and Curtis (and Prince) ahead of him--not to mention James Brown, Ray Charles, P-Funk, etc.

Yeah.

I could never be bothered to give a shit about Ray Charles though...but that's only because of all the posthumous accolades he was getting at the time of his death/that movie about him that came about during my formative listening years. I've been so unfair.

Boy, Innervisions is a jawdropping album. I can only imagine what it might have been like to hear Living for the City performed at the peak of his powers.

But you know what I think of first when I think of Stevie? Stevie farting giraffe noises out of a keyboard on the Cosby Show. That sort of encapsulates how much shit he's put out. Jesus, even that cover of "The Mercy Seat" alone is enough to prompt a vote for Cash.

Stevie on the Cosby Show v. Cash on the Muppet Show.

Muppet Show takes it.

I agree.

But he was better than Stevie Wonder.

What Tim said.

It really bums me out when people refer to Hank Williams as "Hank Sr." His name was Hank Williams; his son is Hank Williams, Jr.

You want to really get bummed out? Declare your love for the work of Hank Williams in mixed company and have someone call you retarded for liking the guy that does the MNF theme song. It's happened to me twice.
