I hate scratched CDs, so I generally try to take good care of my CDs. There's nothing worse than a CD that skips.

i purchased a copy of spiritualized's "Let it Come Down" once and the disk was more scratched up on the bottom than CDs that have been in my collection for years.

We should pontificate on the large amount of CD cases that are already broken when you buy them. You know what I'm talking about- those ones where the CD doesn't sit in the actual tray...


As for vinyl, I baby my records. But not the cds. They're in a book somewhere.

Always shake the CD case before you purchase for that reason. Unforunately, the This Heat reissues had this engraved thing under the CD which scratched them if the CD would spin around in the little holder thingy.

I treat them both very well. However, now that I have my dual CD jukeboxes, I rarely have to handle my CDs, except when I move and have to take them all out. They are either in a player or in a case for me. I never set them down on anything. Although, I'm not sure why I'm so careful as friends' CDs are scratched to high heaven and seem to play fine.

My records are the same way, either in sleeves or on the turntable.
