Well put. The idea that a particular skin color could have any kind of exclusive rights on tyranny and inhumanity is beyond absurd. This is a very stupid crap/not crap. I get the feeling that the original author of this topic had his tongue firmly pressed in his cheek.

I once was subjected to such nonsense in an undergraduate Intro to Anthropology course, though this man was making a substantial living spewing such ridiculous crap: "We westerners just don't understand it. Foot-binding is in its way a beautiful ritual." Cut to a room full of liberal, formerly doting female undergrads collectively dropping their jaws. Fucking academia.

I just moved from a very mixed neighborhood to a very VERY white neighborhood, and I'm having a hard time with the folks on my block. I'm just feeling like they all look down their noses at us 4 punks......

In my old neighborhood, everyone was out in their backyards cooking out or hanging out on sunny weekend days. In this new neighborhood, I hardly ever see anyone in their backyards, and I feel like I'm maybe doing something wrong sitting outside drinking beers with some freinds.

So I'm a little peeved ay the whiteys right now. Seriously, I try to be respectful....but Man, white folks have some pretty large sticks up their asses.

i understand what you're getting at. i take it there's been noise issues, too? or is it just the general tone of the new 'hood? i totally get it though. what i think you should recognize is that it's not all white people that have sticks up their asses, and though i would tend to agree with the generalization that by-and-large, a higher % of the white folks i've come across have sticks up their asses than black folk or hispanic folk, it still doesn't tell us anything about white folk in general. and, hoping not to offend anyone here, from what limited experience i've had, indian folk and generic "asian" folk (east asian) can be a hella lot more uptight than lotsa white folk. anyways...

the issue with your new hood probably doesn't stem from the people there all being white. it probably stems from them being uptight white jerkasses. as soon as you said there's a lot of little kids in the hood, i was like "uh-oh". big clusters of white folks with kids, i would agree with the *generalization* that they tend to be very uptight, very protective, and often interested in a stepford-like situation. i grew up in an extremely uptight, almost entirely white, suburb of chicago. i didn't know shit about the real world until i went to columbia and lived downtown for a few years. that started cluing me in to what the real world holds. i wouldn't be surprised if that's kinda what the folks in your hood are going for: an oppressively vanilla cityscape where they feel okay with kids riding their bikes around, or playing ghost in the graveyard after dark with minimal to no supervision. and yeah, if you're not also a white couple with a kid or three of your own, you're the out crowd.

but it still doesn't mean white folks is bad news. you're a white folk, and i think you're okay. y'know? it's not cause they're white that they look down on you. it's because they're breeders and you're a weirdo. you're different than them, they're different than you. lotsa people out there want to be surrounded by folks similar to themselves. it sounds like in this situation, that might actually apply to both you and your neighbors.

it's like, who here would stand up and defend lincoln park? seriously? go ahead and do it, if you're willing. who will stand up for them? i think it's a very easy sell to say "fucking lincoln park trixies, fucking SUV-driving yuppies". you phrased it wrong. if you woulda made your poll about yuppies instead of white people, you probably woulda had a landslide "crap" vote. no?
