That studio needs to stay open. Some of of us have never even had a chance to even visit the place, never mind recording there! :D

What I meant is that they have many microphones that can do the job of an 87 and many would give better results (depending on application).

If an engineer needs Protools, logic won't do, nuendo won't do. It's got to be protools. It's a problem of many digital systems. The interfacs are too different for the skills learnt on one to translate to another.

i have no idea what you're trying to say but i'm sure its off-topic

A microphone is not an editing program or a recorder. It's a transducer, EA has lots of mics that can do the job of the 87 and sound the same or even better. Tape machines can't do beat detection and apparently, some engineers/producers need it.
Pro Tools is a tool which is broader than a mic, it's a tool with all kinds of options and sub applications. it's very much different than a mic you know..

Not having pro tools in a commercial studio is like not having compressors at all in a studio. There are all kinds of tasks you can't do without a compressor. same thing with PT (for some people).

There you go...

That is funny. An engineer recently asked us on the phone if we had them. That happens once or twice every five years. It is a kind of common studio mic we don't have. There are suitable replacements but some people like using something they are accustomed to, just in case...
We also don't have a FET 47. More people are aghast of that fact. Maybe in the impending recession, we will pick one up for cheap.

Again, I look at the EA equipment list and I don't think "darn, if only they had a FET47..." I've had good results with a FET 47 on trombone, double bass and bass cabinets. I've tried it on kick drum but I prefer it on the bass amp usually. I've read they are hard to troubleshoot if they breakdown.

i noticed there are no Neumann U87 in the equipment list...

most big ass studio own a bunch of them... why not EA ?

just curious

PS:

I've worked at many big assed studios around the country. EA isn't really in that catagory. EA is a cool and professional studio that's owned a famous engineer/interesting personality and people for the most part go there to get his take on things. I'm not trying to insult EA. I think that EA is great. But if EA were trying to be strictly a big assed commercial studio then there are many other pieces of gear that are missing.

SSL, enough neves to track a whole kit, etc etc etc...

There are certain things that all competitive big studios have and u87's are the cheapest part.

Pretty much.

Big assed commercial studios are run kind of like fancy hotels. They all try to have the same highend stuff to compete with each other. And a lot of it's not even related to recording. Alot of it's lounge stuff or kitchen stuff or insane decor.

There's a crazy studio in hollywood (I forget the name) where they had the art director from the matrix movies design all the lounges and connection boxes and vibe of the place. It's ridiculous. Owned by some japanese millionaire.

I'd rather record at EA.
