You forgot to use the conjunction and to connect the two clauses in your sentence.

That's not a sentence.

Interesting contraction usage, Dr. Venkman.

That is not a sentence.

This is a sentence.

Marsupialized wrote:Also, there's a woman I work with who will correct you incorrectly, where you were correct in your langauge to begin with but she thinks you are wrong and corrects you but she uses the wrong word.
Then, do I correct her back or do I let it go?

I had the name Carmichael on some work I was doing, it was the name of a company....she stops me and says 'It's pronounced Chair-michael'
I laughed because why would it be pronounced that way?
She insisted it was pronounced that way, I said whatever...later I called the company and talked to the owner and of course 'it's not pronounced friggin' Chair-michael... what would make you think that?'
Now she comes in and asks what's up with the Chair-michael shipment....do I get into it with her about this or just let it go?
I've just let it go up till now but it's starting to really bug me.

Only mention it if she brings it back up.

If she's annoying and persistant, correct her ass. Where does a person get "Cha" from "Car"?

I do not believe that persistant is a word.

If you're doing it so the person can speak to someone else and be understood, that's no big deal. If you're doing it so they can speak correctly to you, then you're being a dick. You understand him already and you're just being a dick.

"Um, you're not axing me anything. You're asking me something..."

Dick move.

Christmas shopping, Towson Town Center mall, Baltimore, 2002. My friend Greg and I are in the Electronic Boutique and Greg is playing the in-store Gamecube to try out the new first-person alien shooter Metroid Prime. I am watching him, we are suitably in awe.

A dude, who I will call Unsilent Bob because he was wearing a black trenchcoat and because he was highly annoying, sidles next to me and close to Greg and starts spouting off about how great the game is, he's got it already and the controls are really well done for a franchise that went from side-scrolling to fps, but that the one drawback is "you can't straff." With a short A sound, as though the word rhymed with "staff." He tells both of us, loudly and nasally and repeatedly, that he really likes the controls except for the lack of straff. He may have even said 'straffing' at one point.

After we left the store we both discussed what a douchebag Unsilent Bob was, and how we didn't even bother correcting him because if we'd opened our mouths a lot more than "the word is STRAFE" would have come out. In Greg's own words, "SHUTUP! METROID!"

The best part was, I discovered later, dude was wrong anyway. You can totally straff.

I'm guilty of it, but rather than instantly call someone on a mispronunciation, which is dickified, I will use the word without emphasis, and with the correct pronunciation, a few minutes later.

Nobody really liked grammar lessons in school, so why would they like an ambush grammar lesson from a friend?

You have to be really close with someone to pull this one off.
