Soma is also very excellent. Despite what you may think, they do have 2" tape.

i have never been to the key club but have heard nothing but good things. i have recorded at both semaphore and engine. engine has all the charm of a dentists office. sure they have all the slick gear you could ask for but i thought the control room sounded bad and it was just too fancy for me. it kind of felt like the whole place was built to get on the cover of mix magazine. semaphrore is a good, affordable studio. i would go back there again if i was going to be recording something in chicago.
