Band: Vampire Weekend

Pitchfork is about pop music. Their top 100 songs of 2007 was a laundry list of catchy, dancey music, most of which was in fact pretty damned good. The cultural and technological confluences of our time have created an interesting period for those who like safe, fun music that feels fresh and new. Alot of good pop music.

None of that stuff (Strokes, etc.) is edgy or groundbreaking save for the way they reference artists and fashions that were once upon a time cutting edge so as to build mainstream reflections. I like the music for what it is.

Vampire Weekend is okay. I prefer my afro pop to have some punch, some funk, some psych. Whatever. NC, but not really good, either.

D.J.-

I was worried you were going to like this band...because when I heard them for the first time in the Urban Outfitters (I shit you not), some of the guitar lines seemed all right. It quickly made me want to die.

They have a song about getting out of Cape Cod and "escaping" to Jersey. That pretty much sums up the problem with hipster kids my age and the Pitchfork generation.

CRAP.

I disagree.

I hate this music for what it is, which is crap.
