Pitchfork is about pop music. Their top 100 songs of 2007 was a laundry list of catchy, dancey music, most of which was in fact pretty damned good. The cultural and technological confluences of our time have created an interesting period for those who like safe, fun music that feels fresh and new. Alot of good pop music.
None of that stuff (Strokes, etc.) is edgy or groundbreaking save for the way they reference artists and fashions that were once upon a time cutting edge so as to build mainstream reflections. I like the music for what it is.
