Who says that Bush is even close to winning? Look at these two polls:

The last week has seen a bizarre proliferation of news outlets spouting newsflashes of "It's a 10 point bounce! Bush has it! Kerry has gone the way of Nader!" and it's become a feedback loop of ridiculous proportions. Now we're even seeing EA posters face what seems inevitable!
Don't forget that a lot of these polls are conducted by contacting "likely or registered voters". There are a lot more people going to vote in this election than voted in 2000 but how they will cast their vote is yet to be seen (I'm obviously hoping that they vote for Kerry).
Just don't feed this feedback loop and do as others here suggest: look in the mirror and tell yourself that Bush is getting thrown out. A lot of people in this country are pissed that they don't have jobs, health insurance or a healthy pension anymore, but the things they do have include dead or injured relatives in Iraq and no end in sight to the quagmire over there. It's nowhere near a win for Bush yet.
And let's not forget the debates - Kerry is gung-ho for them but Bush would probably rather hear the death rattle of his first-born than go up against someone with a brain and defend his abysmal record as an incumbent.
That said - if the moron does somehow get legitimately voted back in, I will be extremely pissed off, but it will only energize me more to get Hillary into the White House in 2008
What will you do when Bush wins?
12According to the newest issue of Newsweek, in their counting down poll, Bush is ahead by one electoral vote. In the 'tossup states' Bush is leading in Arkansas, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Kerry is ahead in New Jersey. They're tied in Colorado, Iowa and Pennsylvania.
In the same issue, they have this quote:
" It's absolutely essential that... on Nov. 2, we make the right choice because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again and we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States." Vice President Dick Cheney, to a crowd in Des Moines, Iowa, on a terror attack that could occur if the "wrong" person is elected president.
That scares me alot that he would say that voting for Kerry is more or less voting for terrorism.

I would ask Mr. Cheney:
Is that a threat or a promise?
It seems to me that this is a promise of retribution, not from a foreign interest, but from the current regime, which once again begs the question:
Was 9-11 an inside job???

After reading this and then posting it, joining the Army seems like a better idea every minute.

18I had heard what Cheney had said a while ago, and it boggles my mind that people would still vote to have him in a position of power with a clear, direct threat. He's a bully and a fucking punk. I would consider myself a Repulican, but there's no way I want Bush in office any longer. The thing is that the opposition doesn't look a whole lot better.
I enthusiastically hope that Bush doesn't win. If he does... Switzerland is a pretty nice place.

20I hope that any true conservatives out there realize that Bush is not one of them. He is, in fact, a reactionary who has betrayed conservative values.
That said, I don't think either candidate is inevitable at this point. I only pay attention to the results after the election, not polls asking 500 people from Tennesee if they think Bush has done either A) A good job, B) A great job or C) A fucking awesome job!
The closest to a guarantee for relection will be the fix. And they're working on that as best as they can. Florida just made sure Nader was on their ballot even after he missed the deadline.

But to be fair, so did Bush http://www.sptimes.com/2004/09/11/Decision2004/Did_Bush_camp_err_on_.shtml and if they let him in they have to let Ralph in too, right? I'm sure they would have made the same exception for the Greens and Libertatrians if they had been late too, right?
Those of us who have grown up in, and know the history of, Cook County, know there's a good chance this election will be as spoiled as the last.
By the way, the only US county with a worse spoilage record than Dade County Florida's 2000 ballot count, is Cook County Illinois. An old woman from Indiana once told Mayor Daley Sr in the '60's that when she died, she wanted to be buried in Chicago so she could continue to help the Democratic party bring in the vote.
