anybody have any experience recording with an ipod & the griffin italk pro microphone?

i'm thinking about breaking down & getting an ipod classic 80gb (so i can turn my laptop off from time to time & resist reading this forum) & i could also really use a portable wav recorder for incorporating field recordings into film/theater scoring work. there's an otherwise long gearlust list on my desk, so i can't really afford to buy one of the dedicated recorders you guys have mentioned (yet).

so, anyone used that combination?

wouldn't matter so much if it was a little lo-fi, as i would just use the recordings to suggest different atmospheres & compose on top of them.

i know someone on another board who just took his Zoom H4 on a LONG trip thru India and Thailand and a few other countries and the H4 worked like a champ and sounded great.

his only complaint that i am aware of was its appetite for batteries.

I'm looking into one of these H4's. you can bypass the x/y mics and use a different one through the xlr inputs, yes?

If so, this may be the device for me. My phone/camera and this thing all run on SD cards. that'd be great.

any other praises or curses about this or any other models would be appreciated.

I was a bit skeptical of zoom stuff as well but I got a H4 and it's great!
don't regret it at all. I use it all the time and it sounds fine with the inbuilt mics.

yep kerble, you can do that with the H4.

My wife's nonprofit is in love with their little fleet of H4s. They have been out doing interviews with them, then dumping them to a centralized G4 server.

Very nice.

I haven't hooked up any sort of external mics to the XLRs yet. That's coming.

Good choice. I had the association where I work buy a couple Zooms for doing interviews for our podcast series. Ive been very happy with them.

The Sony my gf has is much better, but it also costs quite a bit more. The Zooms are a good deal.

G_C and ringo, I'm going to pick your brains soon about funding some h4s for the stockyard inst ( my www) in the same way.


anyone know somewhere in chicago/sw suburbs that sells the zoom h4 that is not a guitar center?
