Arthur C Clarke RIP

Arthur C. Clarke was a rare talent, extremely gifted in both technical and artistic realms. He was one of the few teachers who could weave together knowledge and poetry in such a way as to convey a profound sense of wonder.

Clarke and Sagan were two of my greatest heroes when I was a young boy, now both of them are gone.

I used to have a movie magazine when I was in grade school that showed how they created the special effects for 2001, back in the days before computer graphics, before filmmakers were allowed by NASA to shoot scenes aboard the "vomit comet", even before high-resolution images of the outer planets existed.

Kubrick and his crew themselves designed and built many ingenious devices to create the amazing effects used in the film.

I'm 6/80ths the way to #1.
